It’s OK to not be OK

It’s not a problem to feel you just cannot manage today

it’s OK to just make it through the day

It’s OK to feel down

It’s Ok to feel like things are at a standstill

It’s OK to feel unloved — misunderstood

It’s Ok to feel like there’s no progress

It’s OK to feel like you’re sinking

It’s not OK to give up entirely…

Living with a long-term health condition is challenging…

Building a positive mindset and resilience can make a big difference…

Elisa Tricon from Living Well Bee has five tips to help patients to build resilience when living with a chronic disease. These are:

  • Adapt — accepting limitations and knowing strengths

  • Connect — supportive community relationships

  • Practice gratitude — express appreciation and kindness as much as possible

  • Foster Wellness — developing healthy diets and positive attitudes towards food

  • Self-reflection — logging freely and continually every day

The article “Resilience in chronic diseases: A systematic review” conducts a review of the literature on the association between resilience and chronic diseases.

It was found that the persons who have the highest resilience scores had less depression, anxiety, and incapacitation which are often observed in patients with chronic illness. This is important since it may provide a higher level of well-being and adhesion to treatment.
