British Gymnasts make history in Liverpool!

If you’ve missed the Gadirova magic on the floor (x2 there are twins on the team who both have a bit of magic to share), the rebuilding of the men's team — from bottom halfway through to bronze medalists. The women taking second. The only country to qualify two teams to the Olympics at the first attempt. For every medal a moment in history - then you need BBC Iplayer.

The gymnastics world championships have lit up the M&S arena with dazzling performances across the four Women’s and six men's apparatus. From the lows to the highs — teamwork. Mistakes and precision. The preparation was perfect, and composure, support and ability to handle the pressure.

Jessica Gadirova was third in the all-around, followed closely by Alice Kinsella in fourth. Golds for Gadirova and Gianni Reginni-Morant in Women’s and Men’s floor finals respectively and bronze for Courtney Tulloch on rings.

Skill after skill, routine after routine. Slowly, carefully edging towards the finish line. Arguably the toughest sport in the world. A balance between difficulty and execution and we need to remember the importance of artistry. Strength, power, grace and mental toughness.

What a tonic — when days are long and there’s not much to cheer for, the gymnastics have kept me going. Building my resilience throughout the day by completing tasks and activities. Something to look forward to, to cherish. To see the excitement build and a different kind of optimism that I need to replicate on those tough days.

Gymnasts — the world knows you are incredible. The performances show that. The passion —mindset, focus, teamwork and pure determination. The bravery required. Repetition needed.

Something that those of us with LTHCs can strive for. Our goals may be different but the input and outcome can be the same. The physio repetition, the need to show resilience and often on our own. Building slowly, engaging with our medical teams, and supporting each other within our own communities.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Inspiration, belief and of course hope. From here where do we go?

One idea I have planned is — TB12. A sporting legend — 12 minutes a day — 5 pillars — let’s explore and see what can be achieved…
