Continuing the work of time to talk day through Bingo

A joint initiative by Mind and Rethink mental illness in partnership with the co-op — this annual event is said to be the nation's biggest health conversation. The goal is to get family, friends, communities and colleagues talking about mental health.

The day may have passed but the resources to keep us talking are still available. Bingo is a great way to get started. This offers conversation starters and practical ideas to help spread the word — reduce stigma — show you don’t need qualifications to lend an ear and support someone in need. It encourages us to think carefully about mental health and the practical ways in which it can be improved.

Downloading a pack that includes a true and false quiz is a brilliant way to begin to understand — support — reduce judgement and educate. It includes facts about the number of people who actually reach out for support — terms and phrases to avoid — things that can be achieved and how the mental health of young people is affected.

There are further resources available. This conversation starter is easy to make and has 8 ways to begin including: talking about celebrities who have spoken out about their mental health — having a chat over lunch — checking in with someone via text — and thinking about how money worries have an impact.

First launched in 2014 this campaign continues to address stigma and discrimination often felt by those with mental health conditions. With the co-op looking to raise £8 million to support the project, it should keep rolling for years to come. The resources will be a great basis to begin to bring about change in local communities — sports groups — workplaces and support groups.
