Self-care that comes for free

There's more and more emphasis being placed on the elements of self-care and their importance in maintaining a happy and healthy lifestyle. But with the cost of living crisis, some of the more luxurious options like a trip to the spa may well be out of reach for many.

The great news is — it doesn’t have to come at a huge cost. As this lovely image suggests there are plenty of things you can do which ‘don’t cost a dime’. They include:

  • walking around your neighbourhood

  • reading a book from whatever pile you might already have

  • listening to your favourite songs

  • sleep well and rest well

  • write in a journal

  • stay well hydrated

It sounds like very simple and basic acts that you can implement quite easily into your daily routine without putting pressure on budgets or even time. Groov now looks at other opportunities for free self-care opportunities to try in their blog.

Of course, there are many options for self-care beyond these examples. Good Housekeeping has a range of 50 different ideas while Good therapy has a list of 134 examples. Plenty of options to get you started. Something for everyone to enjoy and take that they can add into their daily lifestyle.

Each method of self-care fits into one of the seven pillars identified by Macy Burkett from The University of Kansas. They are: mental, emotional, physical, environmental, spiritual, recreational, and social. A well-balanced self-care routine involves each of these, so they recommend that you avoid restricting yourself to just one or two pillars. Using the ideas above that is possible.
