At a time when the cost of living crisis has hit — strikes have crippled the NHS — climate change is on the agenda — more people are developing mental health problems — life can seem just that bit harder to navigate.
Feeling negative — lonely — resentful or even jealous of what others have or you perceive them to have can be a real challenge to manage. Those with long-term health conditions can be the hardest hit. With limited social interaction and smaller networks to support them they can become isolated and find it very hard to cope with everyday living.
Reach out is directed at young people having tough times and promotes 10 top tips for coping with the hard stuff. The same principles can be applied to anyone and include:
Talking to someone
Journalling
Self-love
Take a break
Be nice to yourself
Take a step back
Think about the big picture
Focus on the positive
Say Thanks
Do something, anything!
Life hack also has suggestions on how to tackle tough times and says we can benefit from:
Staying positive
Getting creative
Learning from the difficult times
Changing things up
Focusing on what you can control and not what you can’t
Realising you’ve come a long way
Building your community
Being kind to yourself
Forgiving
The lists above may make it sound simple but it can be far from that. Picking one element to focus on at a time can support us as we progress through the difficult spells in our lives. Making it stronger — building resilience and building positivity that we feel even when faced with challenges we have come through them before so we can do it again.
