The We Are Undefeatable campaign has been running since 2019. Working alongside 13 organisations to give specific advice to those with long-term health conditions and disabilities to help them access physical activity, exercise and sport.
From Diabetes UK to Versus Arthritis and Asthma and Lung UK they strive to offer basic guidelines to get moving whilst showcasing stories of patients who have already taken that first step. The programme is creative and looks at simple ways to get moving as well as signposting those wanting to progress into more organised activities.
Move to your Mood is a new element for the most recent launch. Featuring Gok Whan and some more familiar faces. Centred around the fact that: ‘There are days when we rise without shining and it can be hard to find the motivation to get moving on these days, especially when you are living with a long-term health condition’.
The result? The creation of 3 different activity videos — feeling relaxed with Meg — needing a boost with Sandra and — feeling energised with Darlaine. All are based on how you are feeling and with both seated and standing options — basic equipment is used but alternatives are given.
No bands or weights is not a problem — tea towels and tinned goods work just as well! Plus they only take 5 minutes to complete — accessible to all.
Participants are encouraged to listen to their bodies and do what is right for them on any given day — factoring in the unpredictability of living with medical and mental health issues.
Whilst these activities can be completed anywhere and on your own, it is reported that by doing an activity with someone else 50% of people questioned said their mood was boosted further.
