Who wants to live forever?

The famous words of an Iconic Queen music track.

But these words have more meaning for many. Sure all of us probably think this at some point in our lives but how many think it every day? You may be surprised.

Imagine the pain you must experience to say on your 30th birthday that you hope your life is over halfway over. A phrase straight from the mouth of someone I once knew.

Think of the torture faced by someone with locked-in syndrome. Constantly looking at the ceiling — people directly in front of you. Unable to interact. Not being able to eat, sleep or move. People caring for you that you wish would just let you go.

The constant smells of food and drink that some will never get the chance to taste.

The pain that racks a person's body and makes it difficult to move each day. The long wait for treatment drives people to take desperate measures.

Those who just don’t know where to turn — those who cannot make sense of the world. Feel they have no place. Have lost their way.

The ones who sleep on the streets. A cardboard box and paper are their most prized procession as they keep them warm. Pushing their belongings around in a supermarket trolley or carrying a few plastic bags.

We take so much for granted — perhaps the cost of living crisis has changed this. Perhaps given many an insight into what it’s like to live on the borderline. To face difficult decisions. To feel overwhelmed — like there is no way out. Some sensitivity and understanding were gained.

Difficult scenarios — different for everyone — no one has the right to judge you. That is up to you.

No one walks in your shoes every day. Only you know how you feel and the choices you have to make.
