Carers UK supports carers to be active at home

Carers Active Hub is a resource to help carers increase their activity levels and improve their health and well-being. The demands of caring for a loved one can mean that their own needs are put on hold.

No more as Carers UK provides opportunities and support to get carers moving that will also help support them in their role as a carer. Carers can sign up for the carers active newsletter here to stay up to date with the live sessions that are on offer. There’s also a FaceBook group to join so that carers can be in contact with other carers.

Activity Videos from Carers UK

To build more physical activity into the day alongside caring, check out these Carers Active activity and wellbeing videos! The 15-20 minute sessions feature carers getting active alongside instructors, while the shorter videos demonstrate individual movements and exercises.

Get Active Together

Getting Active With The Person Care For’ is a series of activities that can be done together with the person the carer is looking after, making them the perfect way to ensure that both are looking after their mental and physical well-being: https://www.carersuk.org/help-and-advice/your-health-and-wellbeing/carers-active-hub/activity-ideas/activities-with-the-person-you-care-for/

Active Essex

There are even blog posts from professionals to support carers to get active around their caring role. In this series of videos, Kelly Harman from Active Essex talks about the benefits of regular exercise, tips on becoming more active, activity levels and exercise opportunities available through Active Essex.

Carers Stories

If carers or their families need some inspiration or would like to understand how to implement physical activity alongside their caring role then you can read some carers stories to help support your own journey.

In conclusion, Carers Card UK states that:

“Exercise is not a luxury but a necessity for caregivers. By prioritising regular physical activity, you enhance your physical health, reduce stress, boost mental well-being, increase energy levels, improve sleep quality, and set a positive example for those you care for. Incorporating exercise into your routine doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming - it can be as simple as taking a daily walk, practising yoga at home, or engaging in activities you enjoy. Remember, by nurturing your own health and wellbeing, you're better equipped to provide the care and support your loved ones need”.
