A Celebration of Women & Time To Heal Exercise Website Re-Launch

Updated: Apr 11, 2021

Throughout this month we have celebrated International Women’s Day, Women In Science Day, Mother’s day and explored in detail the This Girl Can initiative. We’ve looked at family workouts, Mother/Daughter bonds and activities as well as those who have reached the highest level in sport, technology, exercise and health.

In keeping with this and as a progression from what we have already discussed, we are relaunching the Exercise page on the Time To Heal Website with a full range of opportunities to explore. You’ll find some basic information around staying safe, different campaigns to get you started, virtual and actual event links to help boost your motivation and the added bonus of some totally new activities!

Please take the time to have a browse and find something that you can enjoy!

A few highlights are;

Superheroes - Disability Virtual/Actual Challenges

The Superhero Tri-Series is specifically targeted at those with disabilities or LTHC's and in fact, you cannot enter unless you fall into one of those two categories!! Events range from Super Sensory where even blinking or simple arm movements are incorporated into home based challenges, up to a full-scale mass participation Triathlon events. Another significant feature of this programme is that you are in control and can have as many side-kicks as you like and use as many aids as you need to get from beginning to end. Plus you'll be rewarded with a great medal, T-shirt and other goodies. There is a price involved but really worth a try!

Sport For Confidence

Sport for Confidence programmes bring together health professionals such as occupational therapists and specialist coaches in order to enable inclusive/accessible sporting activities for anyone who faces barriers to participation. The programme includes those who have challenging and complex needs such as learning disabilities, mental health conditions, physical impairments/disabilities and even homelessness. With COVID-19 Limiting leisure centre activities there are currently opportunities to ‘Stay Connected’ online in a safe environment through Zoom.

Family Fun with Disney Active & Animation

Destination with Imagination is a Disney Programme which consists of six areas;

  1. Arts & Craft

  2. Animation

  3. Trivia

  4. Games

  5. Keeping Active &

  6. Storytelling.

Each section has a variety of activities. Follow through to download craft packs that are great for hand eye co-ordination as well as being guided through the drawing of your most favourite characters. Then be swept away with a family activity booklet where you can play hide and seek with Mickey or dance with Rupunzel! Plus they provide a challenge record sheet so you can gain points. A fantastic way to incorporate mental health, physical health and happiness. You could even have a family Zoom dance off!

NHS Fitness Centre

Here you can keep yourself busy with a full range of activities including; Bedtime Meditation, Pyjama Pilates, strength work and the very popular couch to 5KM programme.

This Girl Can

‘No one gets to choose how you exercise other than you. Your body, your call. And whatever that looks like, we think it’s worth celebrating. This Girl Can, funded by The National Lottery, believes that there’s no “right” way to get active. However you jiggle, kick, lift, stretch, or sprint, it’s time to get moving how you damn please’. Disney shake up’s

As part of the Change For Life Programme these 10minute shake ups are a great way to get moving. From The Jungle Book to Frozen to Cinderella, Toy Story and Buzz Lightyear! You’ll also find some great recipes, food facts and other fun activities.

Stay Well, Stay Safe and Stick to those rules! Remember they change this week so more opportunities will become available again!

Coming up next week;

We Are Undefeatables - Research, Insights & Resources

Time To Heal first connected with the We Are Undefeatables Campaign back in 2020. However, we now have another relaunch following yet more extensive research, with updated activities, links with Charitable Organisations, resources and case studies all based on firm evidence and created based on the needs of the population at such a difficult and challenging time.

Not only that, when it comes to people with LTHC’s they often have one significant illness/disability which is of their primary concern, but also have other conditions that they are affected by. So management of these other conditions becomes a juggling act that is extremely testing and tiring in itself. Therefore, the work done by each of these charities in connection with We Are Undefeatables' and Sport Englands 'Join The Movement Programmes' will provide us with some excellent guidance and support.
